The idea of turning inmates or young offenders into entrepreneurs is not new. The Centre for Entrepreneurs think tank has campaigned for years on the benefits to society of equipping prisoners with business skills ready for their release. It claims that delivering an entrepreneurship programme to all pre-release prisoners could save taxpayers up to £1.4 billion a year by reducing reoffending.
