Fear of failure the difference between serial entrepreneurs and one-time founders


Our director, Matt Smith, writes in Business Zone about the Centre’s recent report on serial entrepreneurship.

While having to shut down a business has traditionally been viewed as a mark of failure and something to avoid, the Centre for Entrepreneurs’ recent report on serial entrepreneurs suggests that business closure should not be regarded as a wholly negative experience.

Certainly, many entrepreneurs fear business failure – and quite rightly so – but it can provide important lessons, as well as clear the path towards more productive pursuits. Closing a business, while looking and feeling like a failure, can in fact be the gateway to success.
