The list, published today to coincide with International Women’s Day, was compiled by DueDil with support from StartUp Loans and the Centre for Entrepreneurs. DueDil used figures from Companies House to rank the firms on their last three years of trading.
The Fortuna 50 showcases women bosses in sectors from architecture and design to property development and brewing. While 26 of the 50 companies are in London, others come from cities across Britain, including Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol and Lincoln.
The prime minister welcomed the research. “Backing female entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, create jobs and help secure the country’s recovery is a crucial part of our long-term economic plan,” David Cameron said. “There are record numbers of women in work and the number of women on FTSE boards is at an all-time high.”
